To ensure the quality of the content found here, as well as making it as accessible as possible, please follow these general guidelines when submitting your piece:
What to publish?
We are happy to publish your contribution if it has something to say about lithium’s manifold connections around the world.
Do not worry if it does not have a global scope, however. It can connect with lithium from a very particular place or angle. Lithium Worlds as a whole brings together seemingly disconnected contributions.
Your contribution can fulfil diverse purposes.
It can tell a particular story about a particular place or person, or make a more abstract argument about broader contexts. It can present well-founded information, or dwell on the ambivalences and indeterminacies of lived realities.
We look for contributions of different and complementary formats, including text, sound, photography, and video.
You are welcome to combine them so as to let your audience take part in your knowledge and experiences. Our goal is to make lithium worlds more tangible to diverse publics.
Formal requirements?
- The length of your text depends on the format you choose (e.g. text, gallery, video). Articles should have at least 500 and not exceed 1500 words.
- If you use references, please use in-text references (no footnotes).
- You can send your text via Word or LibreOffice-File. Please include at least some keywords, a short abstract and a short author’s bio.
- Please provide at least one image (.jpg or .png, long side at least 2048px, smaller than 2Mb).
- Please send your contribution to publications@lithiumworlds.com. For large audio or video files, please use file sharing (e.g. wetransfer). We will then upload your video to our YouTube channel (obviously stating author’s rights) and include it in your contribution.
- After your submission we will discuss your contribution in our next editorial meeting. We will get back to you as fast as possible.
Be kind
- While we encourage critical discussion, please be inclusive and considerate of others. Make an effort to use inclusive language.
- Attempt to craft content with a diverse audience in mind. Avoid overly academic expressions.
- If you are able to, please translate your content. For videos provide subtitle tracks in the other languages, for audio contributions consider providing transcripts. We are happy to help, but our resources are limited and translating takes time.
- If the telling of your story might be harmful to someone in any way please anonymize or consider telling it in a different way.
- Abusive or hateful content will not be displayed.
Making your piece inclusive
If you are struggling to make your text gender-inclusive, we have assembled a few general tips that you might find useful in revising your contribution to Lithium Worlds.
They are formulated as questions, so that you can keep them in mind while editing or writing.
- Are there gender-specific expressions in your contribution that could be replaced with gender-neutral ones?
- Is the masculine form used to make generic references?
- Are there references to sex or gender in your text/ video that don’t need to be there?
- When different genders are being referred to in your piece, is the same kind of information offered about the persons?
- Are you reproducing any occupational or gender stereotypes in your contribution?
- If you would like further tips and guidelines about gender inclusivity, send us an e-mail and we will happily send you more information.
